Mr David McLaurin, Clinical psychologist in Berwick provides strategies for Substance/Medication-Induced Disorder

SUBSTANCE/MEDICATION-INDUCED

DEPRESSION

The key symptoms of depression frequently include: depressed mood and/or diminished interest or pleasure in usual activities (anhedonia).

Individuals with Substance/Medication-Induced Depression, develop these symptoms during or soon after substance intoxication or withdrawal or after ingestion of a medication (where the substance or medication is capable of triggering a depression, such as is the case with alcohol, opioids and amphetamines).

And as for other depressive presentations, significant distress or impairment in social, occupational or key areas of functioning is also present.
